Autumn Finals Day 2015

Whew, another wonderful finals day and a great way to end my role as Tennis Captain! Congratulations to everyone who played in the Autumn tournaments, and especially to the winners! Not only did we have fantastic sunny weather, but the tennis was great and there were a good number of spectators to cheer on the players!! Special thanks to Joe who was the main organiser of the day, as well as to Patience and Nicola. Thank you also to our dedicated volunteers – Charlotte & Joe (umpires), Clare W (food), Graham (bar), Ginnie & Chris P (cakes) and any others!

I think a few people deserve a special mention this time – Sue & Setsuko for being the ‘best dressed pair’ and Ian & Dana for their entertaining ‘crowd banter’!!! A big thank you also to Sue Griffith (who kindly donated the beautiful Rose Bowl Trophy for the mixed winners a few years ago), whose extra financial contribution this year allowed all players, officials and helpers to have a free drink on the day!

We now turn our attention to the Winter tournaments, and further information will be circulated shortly. Finals day will be on Saturday 9th April 2016 – so put that date in your diaries now!!

MEN’S VETS:

Ian Guest & Dana Morin beat Ian Stinton & Chris Hicks: 2-6, 6-2, 6-1

LADIES VETS:

Ginnie Stone & Lesley Gale beat Sue Manton & Setsuko Whelan: 6-0, 6-1

MIXED DOUBLES:

Carrie Askew & Chris Watson beat Ginnie Stone & Graham Baxter: 6-3, 6-1
