Senior members are encouraged to join in the following club sessions. These are aimed at intermediate players and above, and continue throughout the year:
Wednesdays: 7 to 9pm (Intermediate and above players who can confidently serve and rally from the baseline)
Fridays: 7 to 9pm (Intermediate and above players who can confidently serve and rally from the baseline)
Sundays: 2 to 5pm (Club mix in for all standards)
Other regular arranged sessions take place as outlined in the 'Court Bookings' section, including both social and team tennis.
If you are interested in joining any of the club sessions, you can just turn up and play. There are also WhatsApp groups that you can join, please email sanderstead.general@gmail.com with your mobile number and you can be added to the relevant group.
If you are interested in joining any of the arranged sessions, please email sanderstead.general@gmail.com. Your details will then be passed on to those people who organise them. These are either Mens, Ladies or Mixed Doubles, and you would need to provide your level of play so that the most suitable group can be suggested.
Own play:
Individual members can arrange their own tennis and book courts up to 7 days in advance (unless for league or club tournament matches which can be booked ahead of time at date of arrangement). Play can take place from 9am until sunset. Balls are provided free of charge for all members via the cupboard in the lobby. A Clubhouse key will need to be purchased (as below), and you can request the combination for the lock.
Floodlights:
Floodlights are available until 9pm on Courts 1-4. To purchase a floodlight token and Clubhouse key (available at £6 each), please email the Club at sanderstead.general@gmail.com.
Visitors:
Members are welcome to bring occasional visitors to play tennis. However please note that visitors can only play up to a maximum of 3 times, and a £3 guest fee is payable each time. This can be paid into the same bank account as membership fees. If they wish to continue playing tennis at the Club, they will need to become a member.
CLUB SESSION ETIQUETTE
- All members play in sessions at their own risk and, by playing, agree that the courts are acceptable for play.
- It is members’ duty to ensure that they are personally fit to play as declared as part of their membership application.
- When you have finished playing, please lower the nets and collect all the balls. If the balls are wet, please place them on the radiator in the corridor or drying rack.
- Chewing gum is not allowed on the courts.
- When a point is finished, please refrain from hitting the ball hard across the court as it may accidentally hit another player who may have assumed that the rally is over.
- Wednesday and Friday club sessions can be attended by full senior members only and:
- If able to play, the member will indicate on the appropriate WhatsApp group that they can play.
- Members are expected to play a minimum of two sets/two lots of 8 games. Please try not to leave early, especially if there are odd numbers left playing.
- If they wish to start late or finish early, they will send a message on the group advising this.
- Sessions start at 7pm and, if there are the correct numbers for doubles (i.e. 4, 8 , 12 etc), full sets can be played but with short deuces to enable ‘mixing in’ quicker.
- If there are members waiting to play, 8 games will be played, with short sudden death deuces.
