Summer Finals Day 2016

Well, another Summer finals day over and what a fantastic day we had!

The weather was great, although those finalists who had to play in it, especially during the hottest part of the day, may not agree with that! We saw some excellent tennis and some amazing performances from the older juniors, especially James Williamson who was in 3 finals, including one of the senior finals and winning all 3!! Well done James. Watch out ‘senior’ men!!!

There were 11 senior and 5 junior matches involving 39 players, which lasted nearly 10 hours!!! It was great to see so many of you there supporting the players and enjoying the BBQ and cakes etc. There was a great atmosphere and I hope that you all enjoyed the day.

The whole day couldn’t happen without a lot of hard work and help from many of you. So I would like to express my thanks to the following people:

Joe Hayward for purchasing the trophies and setting up the day. The umpires: Joe Hayward, Carrie Askew, Dana Morin, Charlotte Trzcinska, Myles Griffith, Ian Christie, Rob Kirk, Chris Watson and a very special thanks to Shaun Barker who umpired 2 of the junior matches as well as playing in his own 2 matches in between!! Derek & Marilyn Canty for coming back and taking the photos and making the delicious cakes; Jim Gibbons and team – Maureen Gibbons, Gerry Smith & Andy Fenwick for providing the delicious BBQ; the other cake makers – Chris Platonoff, Val Colombo, Ginnie Stone and anyone else I don’t know about; Marilyn Canty and everyone else who helped out in the kitchen. The bar servers: Graham Baxter, Clare Wooldridge and anyone else who lent a hand. And last, but not least, to anyone that I may have left out but, especially, to those of you who stayed to the end for the last of the presentations and then helped me clear up at the end of the day.
